Everybody knows that what Kenney and his Ultra Conservative Party are doing in Alberta is time stamped to failure somewhere down the road. Everybody, but a few, want the promise of a better future. Everyone wants better lives, to see disinformation for what it is, to have better employment, better workplace safety, better pay, more economic and social security and this requires forward thinking progressive change to suit the new conditions over time. Going back to dogmatic authoritarian education, less employment, less pay, less workplace safety, less economic and social security may seem appealing for some egotistical reasons such as dogmatic social and economic power of the wealthy over the rest of society, or racist power and control over minorities, or mystical power over the rational and scientific, or male sexual power over females, or the fanciful, costly, individualist power of doing it all alone and the hard way over community strength and efficiency, or, finally, power of the less educated over the more educated.
It’s unfortunate we have to go through this time and again, but it seems a very human thing to do, afraid as most of us are to change of any kind. Different majorities now seem afraid of progressive change to a more egalitarian sharing of rights as some perceived loss of power, while the minorities fear regressive change, the loss of already hard won rights and some power. And, uncomprehendingly, many seem quite happy to cut their nose off to spite their face as more powerful groups manipulate the momentarily seemingly less powerful to their advantage. Sadly it appears nothing has changed in all of human history of society. At some point we are all part of some kind of minority and at others a part of a majority. Balancing all the values is difficult, wading through information and disinformation is a big struggle, and sacrificing some thing in favour of another inevitable.
While the powerful manipulate and orchestrate the fears of the less powerful, the truth intentionally perverted, information subverted, to suit the needs of a few for power and control over society it will someday become apparent to a subjugated new majority that they have been hoodwinked and a whole new struggle to meet the needs of a new society will take place just as it has numerous times in the past. “Once more unto the breach, my friends!
