Post Media’s Rex Murphy

It’s getting exhausting, let alone somewhat mind numbing, keeping up with opinion rants from the heavily right leaning Post Media corporation that controls some 90% of media in Canada. There is hardly no escape from their obvious and, to my mind, odious propaganda. They’ll support anything on the political right, anything.

Of late I have been reading ‘stuff’ in the National Post (owned by Post Media), particularly the writings of Rex Murphy. Among a host of well paid and coached pontificators Rex is arguably the best known, thanks to the CBC’s Cross Country Checkup he hosted for 20 plus years. I have commented on some of his posts on FB and have shocked and then been ‘roasted’ by some people for my comments. To be expected I suppose as the National Post’s main readership are conservative minded people who do love their unchallenged and validating tabloid. So, let me be clear about the great Canadian Rex Murphy.

Remove the rhetoric, hyperbole, inflammatory language, the Newfoundlander gift for florid gabber and Rex Murphy actually says little if anything of real consequence. The National Post (Post Media actually) must pay him a considerable sum to write, time after time, bombastic articles vilifying their primary target, PM Trudeau. Murphy does a great job of complying to their wishes. The old maxim that as one ages one becomes more conservative certainly applies to Rex, who was once a liberal, and a candidate, in Newfoundland politics. Was a time in Murphy’s past his targets were Mulroney, Preston Manning and Harper as divisive characters within Canadian politics, working for years on the CBC’s government payroll and finally somewhat warming up to Harper in his later years to now ingratiating himself with Post Media.  But most aren’t old enough to remember all that or just don’t bother. One has to pay the bills after all and in sum, Rex is an expert at his writing job, he has been and always will be a Paladin pen for hire.
